How to fix Elementor 500 Error

Estimated reading: 2 minutes 95 views

The Elementor editor can sometimes display a 500 error upon saving changes, often due to server limitations, memory issues, or conflicts with other plugins. Below are solutions that should help resolve this issue.

1. Clear post revisions with the WP Sweep plugin

In many cases, excessive post revisions can cause Elementor to throw a 500 error when saving. Clearing these revisions often resolves the issue.

  1. Install and activate the WP Sweep plugin.

  2. Go to Tools > Sweep in your WordPress dashboard.

  3. Scroll down to the Post Sweep section and click Sweep to delete unnecessary post revisions.

  4. Once the revisions are cleared, try saving in Elementor again.

2. Increase PHP Memory Limit

Contact your hosting provider and ask them to increase your PHP memory limit to at least 512MB. This is a common requirement for running plugins like Elementor. More info here.

3. Check for conflicting plugins

Some plugins may conflict with Elementor, particularly caching or security plugins that intercept save requests.

  1. Deactivate all plugins except Elementor, SiteFlex Framework, and ElementsKit.

  2. Try saving in Elementor. If the 500 error no longer appears, you’ll need to reactivate each plugin one by one to find the conflicting plugin.

  3. Once you identify the conflicting plugin, check if there are updates or alternative settings that prevent the conflict.

4. Check server logs and security settings

If the 500 error continues, there may be server-side issues or security settings causing conflicts with Elementor. Contact your hosting support and request the following:

  • Check Firewall/Mod_Security: some security settings, like mod_security, can block Elementor’s requests. Ask the hosting support to check for mod_security-related issues and, if necessary, temporarily turn it off to determine if this resolves the problem.
  • Review server error logs: ask them to check the logs for any errors or conflicts that could trigger the 500 error.
